1. The output of glass fiber in the world and China has increased year by year, and China has become the largest glass fiber production capacity in the world

In recent years, China’s glass fiber industry is in a stage of rapid development. From 2012 to 2019, the average annual compound growth rate of China’s glass fiber production capacity reached 7%, higher than the average annual compound growth rate of global glass fiber production capacity. Especially in the past two years, with the improvement of the supply and demand relationship of glass fiber products, the downstream application fields continue to expand, and the market prosperity rapidly rebounds. In 2019, the output of glass fiber in China’s mainland reached 5.27 million tons, accounting for more than half of the global total output. China has become the largest glass fiber producer in the world. According to statistics, from 2009 to 2019, the global output of glass fiber showed an overall upward trend. In 2018, the global output of glass fiber was 7.7 million tons, and in 2019, it reached about 8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.90% compared with 2018.

2. The proportion of China’s glass fiber output fluctuates

During 2012-2019, the proportion of China’s glass fiber output in the global glass fiber output fluctuated and increased. In 2012, the proportion of China’s glass fiber output was 54.34%, and in 2019, the proportion of China’s glass fiber output rose to 65.88%. In seven years, the proportion increased by nearly 12 percentage points. It can be seen that the increase in global glass fiber supply mainly comes from China. China’s glass fiber industry expanded rapidly in the world, establishing China’s leading position in the world glass fiber market.

3. Global and Chinese glass fiber competition pattern

There are six major manufacturers in the global fiberglass industry: Jushi Group Co., Ltd., Chongqing International Composite Materials Co., Ltd., Taishan Fiberglass Co., Ltd., Owens Corning Vitotex (OCV), PPG Industries and Johns Manville (JM). At present, these six companies account for about 73% of the global glass fiber production capacity. The whole industry is characterized by oligopoly. According to the proportion of production capacity of enterprises in various countries, China will account for about 60% of the global glass fiber production capacity in 2019.

The concentration of enterprises in China’s glass fiber industry is relatively high. Leading enterprises represented by Jushi, Taishan Glass Fiber and Chongqing International occupy most of the production capacity of China’s glass fiber industry. Among them, the proportion of glass fiber production capacity owned by China Jushi is the highest, about 34%. Taishan Fiberglass (17%) and Chongqing International (17%) followed closely. These three enterprises account for nearly 70% of the production capacity of China’s glass fiber industry.

3、 Development prospect of glass fiber industry

Glass fiber is a very good substitute for metal materials. With the rapid development of the market economy, glass fiber has become an indispensable raw material in the construction, transportation, electronics, electrical, chemical, metallurgy, environmental protection, national defense and other industries. Because of its wide application in many fields, glass fiber has been paid more and more attention. The major producers and consumers of glass fiber in the world are mainly the United States, Europe, Japan and other developed countries, whose per capita consumption of glass fiber is high.

In recent years, the National Bureau of Statistics has listed glass fiber and glass fiber products in the Catalog of Strategic Emerging Industries. With the policy support, China’s glass fiber industry will develop rapidly. In the long run, with the strengthening and transformation of infrastructure in the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region, the demand for glass fiber has increased significantly. With the continuous growth of global demand for glass fiber in glass fiber modified plastics, sports equipment, aerospace and other aspects, the prospect of the glass fiber industry is optimistic.

In addition, the application field of glass fiber has expanded to the wind power market, which is a highlight of the future development of glass fiber. The energy crisis has prompted countries to seek new energy. Wind energy has become a focus of attention in recent years. Countries have also begun to increase investment in wind power, which will further promote the development of glass fiber industry.
